In regards to the
reading “Iranians and Media Coverage
of the War in Iraq: Rhetoric, Propaganda, and Contradiction,” I was extremely appalled to learn of Saddam’s
atrocities in Iran. I was further intrigued by the complexity surrounding
Iran’s dual & paradoxical foreign policy towards Iraq. While I am against
the atrocities committed by Saddam Hussein, I agree with Iranian conservatives
in regards to their fear of destabilization in the Middle East. Since the Iraqi
invasion, my family in Pakistan has a growing uncertainty for their country’s
future. The Pakistani government itself is already very unstable. Today, with
the war now at Pakistan’s doorstep, the future seems very bleak. Overall, the
passage had me thinking from a different perspective. Rather than seeing the
war from an American or Pakistani point of view, it was extremely refreshing to
see what the situation is like in the countries actively dealing with the pandemonium.
